Building local capacity in the oil and gas sector

Ugandan Delegation Applauds Progress on East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project

A delegation from Uganda’s High Commission in Tanzania, led by Ambassador (Ret.) Colonel Fred Mwesigye, visited the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project in Tanzania, expressing appreciation for the remarkable progress. The visit highlights the strong partnership between Uganda and Tanzania in advancing this significant regional infrastructure initiative.

Key Milestones of the EACOP Project
Offshore Oil Export Terminal in Tanga
The construction of a 2.1 km offshore oil export terminal in Tanga is a major achievement. This facility will streamline crude oil exports to international markets, positioning East Africa as a key player in the global energy trade.

Marine Storage Terminal
The Marine Storage Terminal complements the export terminal by providing essential storage capacity. This ensures efficient management of oil exports and a reliable supply chain.

Strengthening Regional Cooperation
The EACOP project exemplifies the partnership between Uganda and Tanzania. Spanning 1,443 kilometers, the pipeline will transport crude oil from Uganda’s Albertine Graben to the Tanzanian port of Tanga. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to utilizing natural resources for mutual economic growth and regional development.

Economic and Social Benefits
Beyond its technical achievements, the EACOP project is set to transform the economies of both Uganda and Tanzania. It will create thousands of jobs, support local industries, and attract investment. Adhering to strict environmental and social standards, the project ensures that growth is both sustainable and inclusive.

Ambassador Mwesigye’s Remarks
Ambassador Mwesigye praised the progress and reaffirmed Uganda’s dedication to the project’s success. He emphasized the importance of regional partnerships in driving economic growth and elevating East Africa’s global influence.

A Vision for Energy Security and Growth
The EACOP project represents more than infrastructure—it embodies East Africa’s aspirations and potential. With milestones like the Tanga export terminal and marine storage facilities taking shape, the region is steadily transforming into a global energy hub.

The partnership between Uganda and Tanzania sets a powerful example of collaboration, demonstrating how natural resources can be harnessed to deliver lasting benefits for the region and meet global energy demands.
