Context & Environment

The Tilenga Project represents one of the most complex industrial drilling operations within the TotalEnergies Group to date. It is set in a remote and environmentally sensitive area of Uganda, partially located within a protected National Park, beneath the Nile River wetlands, and amidst densely populated rural communities.

Key project characteristics:

  • Factory drilling model: A well delivered every 4 days using three drilling rigs simultaneously.

  • High focus on standardization of equipment and procedures, and strict adherence to Drilling & Well instructions.

  • Operations in a multicultural, multi-contractor environment, with teams distributed globally.

  • Full compliance with Ugandan lawsinternational engineering codes, and environmental standards is required.

The project targets cost-efficiency by challenging traditional TotalEnergies design principles and referentials. Following Final Investment Decision (FID) in Q1 2022, drilling commenced in Q2 2022, with a targeted Ready for Start-Up (RFSU) in July 2026.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop, implement, and maintain procedures, tools, and systems for effective project scheduling, progress control, and reporting.

  • Create and manage a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) aligned with the project’s cost control and reporting requirements.

  • Develop and regularly update project schedules, including simulations and alternative scenarios (“what-if” analysis) to support decision-making.

 

Progress Control & Coordination

  • Collaborate with Cost Controllers to ensure consistency across schedule and cost information.

  • Review and monitor contractor schedules, progress measurement systems, and progress reports to ensure alignment with project requirements.

  • Evaluate contractor methodologies, providing recommendations and interventions when project milestones are at risk.

 

Reporting

  • Define and implement a robust reporting structure for monthly and weekly reports, meeting the needs of the Concessionaire, Partners, and Project Management.

  • Prepare and deliver the Project Monthly Report and Weekly Report, in coordination with the EPC Project Controls Leader.

  • Continuously support Package and Construction Management teams with up-to-date progress and performance insights.

Communication & Leadership

  • Maintain clear and timely communication with the Project Controls Leader and Lead Planner, flagging any issues that may impact project success.

  • Actively support multidisciplinary coordination efforts across teams, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of progress and issues.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or equivalent.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in project planning and reporting, with at least 5 years in the Oil & Gas or Infrastructure sector.

 

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Primavera P6, MS Project, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Strong analytical and reporting capabilities.

  • Familiarity with project controls principles, progress measurement systems, and planning best practices.

 

Soft Skills

  • Effective communication and coordination across multiple teams and disciplines.

  • Able to work independently, take initiative, and drive tasks to completion under changing priorities.
