“At some point, this project will come to an end,” stated Jimmy Mugerwa, Project Director at the Industry Enhancement Centre (IEC), emphasizing the importance of strategic collaboration in Uganda’s oil and gas sector. Speaking during a two-day engagement with stakeholders, Mugerwa encouraged companies to actively seek opportunities through joint ventures to position themselves for long-term success in the industry.
He highlighted that Uganda’s oil and gas sector offers immense potential for growth and development, but it requires proactive efforts from local companies to build partnerships that can drive innovation and efficiency. Joint ventures, he noted, are a critical avenue for sharing resources, knowledge, and expertise, enabling businesses to scale up and meet the stringent standards required in the sector.
The engagement brought together key players, including local suppliers, contractors, and international partners, to discuss challenges and explore solutions for enhancing participation in the industry. Mugerwa stressed that by embracing collaboration and investing in capacity-building, companies can secure a more significant stake in the oil and gas value chain, ensuring sustainable benefits even beyond the project’s lifespan.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Companies need to be strategic and focus on forming partnerships that will not only help them thrive in the oil and gas sector but also prepare them for future endeavors in other industries,” Mugerwa added.
The two-day event also featured panel discussions, training sessions, and networking opportunities, aimed at equipping participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to succeed in Uganda’s evolving oil and gas landscape.
