In a recent statement, Rosette Komugisha, the National Content Lead at TotalEnergies, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing national content through the Tilenga Project, a flagship initiative aimed at maximizing local participation in Uganda’s oil and gas sector.
TotalEnergies has structured its approach around three key pillars that form the foundation of its national content strategy:
Employing Ugandans and Training Local Employees: The project has successfully created a substantial number of job opportunities for Ugandans. As of now, over 10,255 Ugandans have been employed on the Tilenga Project, surpassing the initial target of 7,830. This achievement not only supports economic growth but also empowers the local workforce through skill development.
Utilizing Locally Obtainable Goods and Services: TotalEnergies is committed to boosting the Ugandan economy by prioritizing the procurement of goods and services from local suppliers. A remarkable USD 719 million has been spent on locally sourced goods and services, significantly contributing to the growth of local businesses and the economy at large.
Building Capacity and Transferring Knowledge, Skills, and Technology: The company recognizes the importance of knowledge transfer and skill development. A staggering 1 million manhours have been dedicated to training Ugandans, ensuring that local employees are equipped with the necessary skills to excel in their roles. Additionally, USD 9.4 million has been invested in local supplier development, education, and skilling initiatives, reinforcing TotalEnergies’ commitment to sustainable growth and community support.
Rozetta Kom expressed her gratitude to all contractors involved in the project, stating, “We want to acknowledge and celebrate every contractor who has journeyed with us and contributed to these significant National Content Achievements on the Tilenga Project.” Her remarks underscore the collaborative effort between TotalEnergies and its partners to foster local development and create lasting impacts on the Ugandan economy.
TotalEnergies remains dedicated to realizing its vision of empowering Ugandan citizens and institutions through meaningful engagement and investment. The achievements outlined above reflect not just the progress of the Tilenga Project, but also a broader commitment to sustainable development and national growth within Uganda’s oil and gas industry.
