The newly appointed Governing Board of the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) recently embarked on an extensive familiarisation tour of key operational areas within Uganda’s oil and gas sector. The visit, aimed at deepening the Board’s understanding of current developments in the industry, brought the team to several significant locations in the Albertine Graben.
The visit included a stop at the Kingfisher Project in Kikuube District, managed by CNOOC Uganda Limited, where the Board received a comprehensive briefing on project milestones and the progress achieved to date. The Kingfisher Project is one of Uganda’s flagship oil production ventures, playing a central role in the country’s emerging oil landscape.
Beyond the Kingfisher site, the PAU Governing Board also visited other pivotal installations that support the oil and gas ecosystem. These included Luwero Industries’ Oil Waste Management plant, a critical facility that ensures environmentally responsible waste handling, and the Kingfisher feeder line road crossing point. The team also inspected Pump Station One of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (#EACOP) in Hoima, marking an important segment in the pipeline infrastructure that will transport crude oil to the Tanzanian coast.
The PAU Governing Board’s field visit underscores its commitment to responsible resource management and aligns with the country’s strategy to optimize oil and gas resources for sustainable economic development. This familiarisation tour serves as a foundation for the Board to make informed decisions that will shape Uganda’s oil and gas future, while balancing economic gains with environmental stewardship.
