Enhancing Uganda’s Oil and Gas Sector Through Strategic Networking.


On July 25, 2024, the Industry Enhancement Centre (IEC) in Kololo hosted a significant Oil and Gas Business to Business Networking Event. This event marked a pivotal moment for Uganda’s oil and gas industry, bringing together key stakeholders, industry experts, and business leaders to discuss and strategize on enhancing the sector’s growth and sustainability.

The Objective of the Event
The primary goal of the event was to ensure that Ugandan companies derive maximum value from the oil and gas sector. This involves fostering knowledge transfer, promoting the use of Ugandan goods and services, and empowering local businesses to secure tenders within the industry. The event emphasized the importance of creating shared prosperity between licensees and Ugandan companies, a mission that has been at the heart of the Chamber of Mines for many years.

Key Highlights and Initiatives
1. Sector-Led Initiative: The IEC event underscored its nature as an oil and gas sector-led initiative, sponsored by TotalEnergies (TEPU) and its joint venture partners CNOOC and UNOC, along with the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) and the Ministry of Energy & Mineral Development. Zoramu Consulting Group and Invest in Africa serve as the contractors implementing this initiative.

2. Building Capacity and Capabilities: One of the core objectives of the IEC is to enhance the capacity and capabilities of Ugandan companies to win tenders in the oil and gas sector. The initiative is not just about networking but ensuring tangible outcomes where participants can secure contracts and grow their businesses.

3. Programmes and Services: The IEC offers a range of programmes and services, including publicizing and disseminating information about oil and gas opportunities, capacity development for SMEs, business advisory services, and supplier development workshops and network events.

4. Access to Information and Resources: The IEC serves as a resource center, providing access to vital information, coaching, mentoring, and various training programs. It aims to be a one-stop center where businesses can find information on bidding, business advisory, and sector-specific opportunities.

The event featured several notable speakers and industry leaders, including Mr. Jimmy D. Mugerwa, Managing Director of Zoramu Consulting Group, who highlighted the importance of local content and shared his extensive experience in the oil and gas industry. Additionally, Ms. Laini Hadidja, who runs tenders on eco-packages, shared her success story, demonstrating the potential and opportunities within the sector.
